Best Missed-Call Text-Back Software for Contractors (2026, Prices Checked)

Solve Trend8 min read

A comparison table of missed-call text-back tools with prices checked October 12, 2026: Jobber, HighLevel, Quo, Pixorizon and AutoTextBack, and whether each texts from your own number

The best missed-call text-back software for most contractors is the one inside the tool you already run the business on. If that's Jobber, use its AI Receptionist. If you don't run on field-service software and just want your phone to text people back, Quo is the simplest low-cost option. If you'd rather not touch any of it, a done-for-you service such as Pixorizon or AutoTextBack in Canada sets it up for you. The rest of this post shows why, with prices we checked on each vendor's own site on October 12, 2026.

What we compared, and why

Five things decide whether text-back earns its keep in a trades business. Most roundups skip the first two.

  1. It texts new callers, not just existing customers. A text-back that only recognises people already in your system misses the calls that matter most: first-time enquiries.
  2. It texts from the number they called. A text from an unknown number gets ignored or blocked. Some tools send from a second number.
  3. It works where you work. Canadian numbers, Canadian carriers, and the texting rules in your country.
  4. The real monthly cost. Plan price, plus number rental, per-text fees and US carrier registration (A2P 10DLC), which can add a one-time fee and a monthly charge.
  5. Who sets it up. Software you configure yourself, or a service that does it for you. The second costs more and saves an afternoon or three.

Why it matters at all: in Invoca's July 2026 benchmark, only 52% of home-service calls were answered by a person (Invoca). Put a number on your own missed calls with our missed-call revenue calculator.

The best options, by situation

Jobber AI Receptionist: best if you already run on Jobber

Jobber's AI Receptionist answers calls and, in Jobber's words, “can even text back callers who hang up.” It works by call forwarding, so customers keep calling the number they already know. It's included on the Plus plan ($399 a month, billed annually) and a $29-a-month add-on on Core, Connect and Grow (USD). The win is that leads land in the same place as your quotes and jobs. Watch for: Jobber's pricing page lists Canada for two-way texting but doesn't confirm the AI Receptionist there, so ask before you buy if you're Canadian.

HighLevel: best if a marketing agency runs it for you

HighLevel has a setting literally called Missed Call Text Back. The Starter plan is $97 a month, with phone usage on top: $1.15 a month per number and $0.00747 per text segment. It can send from your own number through hosted SMS, which HighLevel limits to supported US and Canadian numbers. It's built for marketing agencies, so it does far more than text-back, and setting it up yourself is a project. Local numbers need carrier registration: a one-time $22.50 fee for low-volume senders, plus a monthly campaign fee.

Quo (formerly OpenPhone): best cheap phone system that does it

Quo's auto-responses cover missed calls: “Respond to texts, missed calls, or voicemails with a pre-defined message.” The Starter plan is $15 per user a month billed annually, or $19 monthly (USD), and auto-replies are on every plan. You can port your existing number for free, and Canadian numbers are available in every province. Watch for: carrier registration is a $19.50 one-time fee plus $1.50 to $3 a month, and the text-back is a fixed message, not a conversation. Porting a mobile number moves it off your phone's SIM.

Pixorizon: best done-for-you option in Canada on price

Pixorizon sets up missed-call text back for owner-run HVAC, plumbing and mechanical businesses in Canada and the US, typically texting within about 60 seconds. It costs CA$49 to set up and CA$59 a month, month to month, and usually sends from your existing number. It's the lowest-effort, lowest-cost done-for-you option we found. Watch for: a “reasonable use” messaging allowance with no number published, and you're renting their setup rather than owning one.

AutoTextBack: done for you, with a second number

AutoTextBack is a Canadian service for trades: $99 a month, no setup fee, no contract, unlimited texts and a money-back guarantee. The catch is the number. You keep your number for calls, but the texts come from an additional local number, so customers end up texting you on a number they've never seen. That's worth weighing against the criteria above.

Podium and LeadTruffle: bigger platforms, priced by demo

Podium's “Re-engage Missed Callers” texts customers automatically when you miss a call, as part of a wider messaging and reviews platform. LeadTruffle is a lead-response platform aimed at trades, with missed-call text-back included. Neither publishes prices: both require a demo. LeadTruffle's base plan texts from a toll-free number, with a dedicated local number on higher plans. Both make sense if you want reviews, web chat and texting in one place. Neither makes sense if you only want text-back.

Twilio + n8n: cheapest if you build it yourself

Build it yourself and the running cost is small: a Twilio number is $1.15 a month, texts are $0.0083 per segment in the US and Canada plus a carrier fee, and n8n can run on a cheap server or on n8n Cloud. US numbers also need carrier registration (a $4.50 brand fee, $15 campaign vetting, then a monthly charge). You own everything and can make it do exactly what you want. The cost is your time. Our step-by-step build guide covers the whole thing.

Solve Trend: the DIY build, done for you

Our Speed-to-Lead Setup is the Twilio + n8n build, done by us: missed-call text-back, an instant reply to every enquiry, and routing to the right person, live in two weeks, for CA$1,490 one time. You own the workflow and the account, and you pay the running costs directly. Honest downsides: it costs more upfront than Pixorizon or Quo, and if you already pay for Jobber, its AI Receptionist will be simpler for you. It's the better fit when you want text-back connected to the rest of your setup: your CRM, quote follow-up, or a custom intake.

Tools that sound like they do it, but don't

Several tools that show up in “best missed-call text-back” lists don't do what a contractor needs out of the box. We checked each one on the vendor's own pages.

ToolWhat we found
Housecall ProIts Voice add-on's missed-call automation texts existing customers. A broader AI text-answering feature is in alpha. New callers aren't covered (help article).
DialpadHas an SMS auto-reply for incoming texts outside hours, not a missed-call trigger (help article).
RingCentralNo toggle. You can build one in Workflow Builder, but a RingCentral product manager wrote that they removed the missed-call templates “because of the risk it creates” (community thread).
Smith.aiAn answering service. It answers calls instead; text follow-up is $0.50 per call, after answered calls (pricing).
CatchMyCallerAlerts you about calls you missed when your phone was off or out of signal. US numbers only. Different product (site).
WeaveHas missed-call texting, from $199 a month by quote, but it's built for dental, vet and other healthcare practices (pricing).

The costs nobody puts on the pricing page

  • US carrier registration (A2P 10DLC). Any tool sending texts from a regular US number has to register. Expect a one-time fee and a monthly campaign charge; several vendors pass these on.
  • Per-text fees. Some plans include texting; others bill every segment. One emoji shrinks a segment from 160 characters to 70, which can double the count.
  • A second number. If a tool texts from a new number, you'll want that number on your website and signage too, or customers won't recognise it.
  • Porting. Moving a mobile number to a phone system can take it off your phone. Quo, for one, says porting a mobile number deactivates its SIM. Do it on a quiet day.
  • Your time. Self-serve tools are cheap until you count the evening spent on setup, templates and registration.

How to choose in two minutes

  1. Already on Jobber? Turn on AI Receptionist and stop reading.
  2. Want a better business phone anyway? Quo.
  3. In Canada and want it done for you cheaply? Pixorizon. Don't mind a second texting number? AutoTextBack.
  4. Already working with a marketing agency on HighLevel? Ask them to switch on Missed Call Text Back.
  5. Want it built, owned by you and connected to everything else, without doing it yourself? That's our Speed-to-Lead Setup.
  6. Comfortable with a bit of setup? Build it yourself on Twilio and n8n.

Missed-call text-back software FAQ

What is the best missed-call text-back software?

There isn't one winner. If you run on Jobber, its AI Receptionist. For a simple business phone, Quo. For a done-for-you service in Canada, Pixorizon. For agencies, HighLevel. Pick by the tool you already use and who will set it up.

How much does missed-call text-back cost?

From about $15 a month for a phone system like Quo, CA$59 a month for a done-for-you service like Pixorizon, or, if you build it yourself, $1.15 a month for a Twilio number, under a cent per text, and hosting for n8n. Add US carrier registration fees if you text from a US number.

Can I keep my business number?

Usually. Quo and HighLevel let you text from your existing number through porting or hosted SMS, and Jobber works by forwarding. AutoTextBack is an exception: texts come from an additional number.

Does missed-call text-back work in Canada?

Yes. Quo, HighLevel, Pixorizon and AutoTextBack all state Canadian support, and Twilio sells Canadian numbers. Canadian messages fall under CASL, so identify your business and offer a way to opt out.

Is missed-call text-back worth it?

If you miss calls, yes. About half of home-service calls go unanswered by a person (Invoca, July 2026), and a text in seconds keeps the customer talking to you. Run your numbers in our missed-call revenue calculator before you buy anything.
